This seven-week program prepares workers and management to operate a safe, compliant extraction lab or product manufacturing facility. Here’s the lineup:
October 7: US Cannabis Laws: This class is always fresh and up to date with the fast-moving changes in federal law. Oaksterdam’s Chair of Legal, Lauren Vázquez, breaks down the interaction between state and federal cannabis laws and policies. Keith Justin Anderson provides an overview of Native American tribal cannabis laws and how they are shaping state and local markets. Vázquez and Anderson break down massive current shifts in federal cannabis and hemp policies.
October 14: Basic Laboratory Operations & Safety and Risk Mitigation: This class provides the essential foundations for working in an extraction lab and manufacturing facility, including SOPs, facility cleanlines and best practices, preparing for and responding to HAZMAT incidents, operating a scale, performing experiments, and producing clean, consistent products free from pathogens and other contamination.
October 21: Introduction to Extractions & Basic Lab Operations: This class breaks down traditional and commercial extraction methods, as well as the roles and responsibilities of workers in an extraction and manufacturing facility.
October 28: Principles of Manufacturing: This class covers manufacturing strategies and tours facilities that produce a range of end-use products, including packaged flower and extracts, pre-rolls, edibles, tinctures, topicals, and more.
November 4: Light Hydrocarbon Extraction: This class explores extraction with butane, propane, and other light hydrocarbons and how a wide variety of end products that

November 11: Ethanol Extraction: From full extract cannabis oil (aka RSO) to edibles, tinctures, isolates, and vaporizer cartridges, ethanol extraction is a method used to produce many popular cannabis products. This class covers the process of making ethanol crude oil and refining it for end use or addition to manufactured products.
November 18: Solventless Extraction: This class covers how traditional methods of kief sifting, rubbing, and pressing have now been elevated to produce high-end bubble hashes, rosins, and other extractions that utilize only water as a solvent in a commercial setting.
Courses are taught by Oaksterdam’s Co-Chairs of Extraction and Manufacturing, Stefanie Gangano, PhD, and Anthony DeMeo, who also join students and alumni for the free monthly Extractions & Manufacturing Lab, a group coaching session where you can ask anything and learn everything! Labs are a bit of show-and-tell, networking, and an easy way to tap into expert advice and network with peers.
